Every Easter I reflect with my kids on the incredible story of the life, sufferings, death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God!

The story of Jesus that I tell my kids is simple enough for my 2.5-year-old toddler to follow as well.

This is a short summary of what we study during the Easter season.

It’s been two millennia since Jesus Christ was born in Israel’s little town, Bethlehem, to humble parents, Mary and Joseph.

As a young man, Jesus grew up and lived in Nazareth and began His true mission when He became 30.

He traveled around teaching people about God while performing miracle after miracle.

He healed sick people and fed thousands out of thin air.

And He even calmed storms just with His loud voice and walked on water!

Everywhere Jesus went, He left people in awe of His teachings.

He demonstrated unbreakable faith and love for our Heavenly Father and one another.

Following behind Him came his devoted disciples determined to learn from Him and spread His message.

The number of Jesus’ followers grew and His message spread quickly reaching the people in Jerusalem.

But so did grow the unhappiness of the religious leaders in the capital.

Leading priests weren’t happy with His popularity and viewed Him as a threat.

Jesus knew His end was nearing.

Yet, with His immense love for humankind, He chose to endure suffering and sacrifice His life for our sins!

Events Leading To Good Friday

Easter celebrations are about commemorating the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion.

The events leading up to Easter Sunday or Resurrection Sunday are known as Holy Week and are considered to be one of the most significant times in the Christian calendar.

Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday. On this day we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

“A blessing be on him who comes in the name of the Lord; we give you blessing from the house of the Lord.” – Psalm 118:26 (BBE)

In Jerusalem Jesus continues to teach his followers the main truths of God’s will.

He also challenges the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of the capital who were too busy caring for their own gain rather than their worshippers.

With the growing rage of Jewish leaders, Jesus is betrayed by one of his own disciples, Judas Iscariot.

On Maundy Thursday Jesus shares a meal with his disciples in what is known as the Last Supper.

This sacred gathering saw the establishment of one of Christianity’s holiest sacraments, the Eucharist – an intimate reminder for Christians to commemorate and remember Him through bread and wine.

Good Friday And Easter Sunday

Good Friday marks the day that Jesus was crucified, fulfilling the prophecy of his death for the eternal salvation of humanity.

The Easter story in Bible tells us how Jesus was betrayed, wrongfully arrested, and sentenced to death upon the cross as a sacrifice for us all.

Jesus endured a great deal of suffering before his death.

He was beaten and mocked by Roman soldiers and forced to carry his own cross to the place of execution.

Finally, Holy Week culminates in the celebration of Easter Sunday, which commemorates Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

Christians worldwide gather to celebrate this day with joy and gratitude, as we remember the hope and promise of eternal life that Jesus’ resurrection represents.
